National Summit for the Empowerment of Women with Disabilities

Event Detail

On 12–13 December 2022, NFWWD took part in the National Summit for the Empowerment of Women with Disabilities in Islamabad. The summit brought together women with disabilities from across Pakistan alongside representatives from government, civil society, and international partners. Its primary objective was to amplify the voices of women with disabilities, showcase their leadership, and identify concrete strategies for advancing their rights and participation in national development. Over two days, the summit provided a dynamic platform for dialogue, experience-sharing, and policy engagement. Panel discussions, thematic sessions, and interactive workshops addressed key issues including political participation, access to education and employment, gender-based violence, and inclusive policy-making. Women leaders with disabilities shared personal stories and strategies for overcoming barriers, inspiring collective action and strengthening the movement for disability rights in Pakistan.

The summit concluded with a call to action, urging government institutions, political representatives, and development partners to work together toward a more inclusive and equitable society. By centering the leadership of women with disabilities, the event marked a milestone in recognizing their role not only as beneficiaries of services but as key decision-makers, advocates, and agents of change in Pakistan’s democratic and development landscape.
