In 2015, a national consultation workshop was convened in Islamabad to deliberate on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and its linkages with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The workshop created a platform for dialogue among stakeholders on aligning disability rights with national development priorities, ensuring that the principles of inclusion, equality, and accessibility remain central to the development agenda.
The consultation was organised in collaboration with the British Council, Sightsavers, Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP), Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD), and Light for the World. It brought together policymakers, civil society organisations, and representatives of persons with disabilities to share perspectives and strategies for effective implementation. The event reaffirmed the collective commitment of partners to advancing the rights of persons with disabilities in Pakistan, while promoting an inclusive approach to sustainable development
