Yumna Ikram

"We are not helpless and we do not want looks of pity."

Provincial Coordinator (Sindh), National Forum of Women with Disabilities (NFWWD) | Co-Founder/General Secretary, Inclusive Destiny

Yumna Ikram is a visually impaired computer science graduate and disability rights activist. Her life began as a sighted child, but at the age of three, her parents began noticing changes in her behavior, indicating something was amiss with her vision. Although her father sought numerous medical opinions, misdiagnosis and delayed treatment led to Yumna completely losing her vision at the age of four. She later enrolled in a special needs school in Karachi, where she emerged as the top student in her class. She then transitioned to a regular school for her matriculation studies.

During this time, Yumna discovered a supportive online community of people facing similar challenges. Sharing inspiration with a friend from India, Yumna pursued software engineering.

After graduating, Yumna began her professional journey, working in software services while simultaneously engaging in disability rights activism.
