Komal Younis acquired a disability at the age of 7 after an accident. Her mother enrolled her in a special education school where she got her primary education. After that, she completed her secondary education from a general school and acquired a phd in Educational Psychology. After the 2005 earthquake, she partnered with Tafiq Aman and started advocating for the rehabilitation and inclusive education of children with disabilities. She has formed self-help groups in her community where the voices of people often excluded from society are heard and encouraged. She also works to provide them with counselling. Under Arise, she does peer counseling and family counseling of persons with intellectual or physical disabilities. With Arise, she also works to link women with disabilities to vocational schools so that they can get skills training.
